16th November 2018 With just two weeks to go until the release of Thomas A. Christie’s new book Contested Mindscapes: Exploring Approaches to Dementia in Modern Popular Culture, author Ian McNeish has penned a reflective poem entitled Lost about the issue of dementia and its impact upon those affected by the condition: Lost Miss Monet smiles, I melt away. Her eyes sparkle, inquire, so deep, explore my emotions; exposed. Miss Monet smiles, why are you here? My answer unclear. Sad, confused, I want to hold her, an inadequate response. Miss Monet smiles, I am transparent, why am I here? An intrusion, drawn by a loveliness I cannot voice. Miss Monet smiles, her eyes sparkle; also sadness. Why am I here? Campaign to Axe the Reading Tax
25th October 2018 The Publishers Association is currently spearheading an awareness campaign regarding the "Reading Tax" - VAT placed on digital publications such as eBooks and audiobooks. While printed matter in Great Britain has been zero-rated for Value Added Tax since it was first established in the 1970s, this has not been the case for digital reading material. At a recent meeting of the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) in Brussels, the European Union has elected to remove VAT on e-publications, and the "Axe the Reading Tax" campaign is aiming to ensure that the British Government's UK digital policy also recognises the need for all electronic reading material to be exempt from tax. To read more about this issue, including the campaign's petition, please visit the official website at: www.axethereadingtax.org |

Introducing The Fearn Bobby
26th February 2018 Coming soon, Extremis Publishing is pleased to announce the exciting debut book by author Ian McNeish. The Fearn Bobby: Reflections from a Life in Scottish Policing explores Ian's eventful career as he rose through the ranks from a remote countryside outpost to his appointment as a Local Unit Commander, always putting the community at the centre of everything he did. Ian held a police warrant card for three decades, serving communities across Scotland. In that time, his work saw him moving from the northerly constabulary where he policed the rural Hill of Fearn to the social challenges that presented themselves amongst the urban landscape of Central Scotland. Leading the reader through his involvement in front line situations, Ian explains the effects of anti-social behaviour and attending criminal court appearances, in addition to dealing with death and the responsibilities of informing those left behind. He considers topics such as ethics, public interest, police and firearms, drug issues, causes of crime, and a lot more besides. Comparing today’s policing techniques with his own professional experiences and examining both the good times and the harrowing pitfalls of the job, his account of life in the force is heartfelt, entertaining, and always completely honest. The Fearn Bobby will be released on Friday 30th March 2018, and is now available for pre-order from online retailers and independent booksellers. For more details about the book, please visit our The Fearn Bobby page. |

The Frozen North

Addison and his young family who - forty years ago - were struggling across the snowy Rocky Mountains during his exchange teacher visit to Montana in the United States. Crossing the icy peaks in a rickety old car, David, his wife and young children could only imagine the adventures that would await them in the depths of that eventful winter.
