Services

In addition to our work releasing books as an independent publishing house, Extremis Publishing also offers a number of professional services which include the following:

Commissioning of New Work
If you are a patron who is seeking to commission new writing or a full-length work on a particular subject, we may be able to help. Please contact us in the first instance to discuss the nature of the project you would like to have developed, as well as details of the approximate intended word count.

Producing Articles and Features
Because our team of authors has a diverse range of specialist subject areas, we are sometimes approached to produce original material for websites, social media, magazines and journals. Do please feel free to reach out to us if this is an area that is of interest to you.

Advice and Consultation
We are often called upon to offer advice on various areas of the publishing process to individuals or organisations who are seeking consultation regarding particular matters related to the industry. If there is a specific issue that you would like to discuss in detail, please send us a message.

Talks and Presentations
We regularly give talks and presentations on writing and publishing - including Q&A sessions - to university students, community groups and book clubs, and have worked in collaboration with independent bookshops. Please get in touch if you would like to know more about organising an event.

Instruction About Writing and Publishing
As we regularly work with a number of authors, in the past we have been involved in instructional sessions related to the writing process and best practices about how to produce and present work to publishers. Please let us know if you would like more details of these advice workshops and how to get involved.

Podcast Advertising
Extremis Publishing releases a new episode of our popular podcast every month, on the subject of books and writing. If you represent a company or organisation that would like to advertise in our monthly podcast, please contact us for more information.

Recommendations about Writing Projects
Are you writing a book and are looking for advice about how to get it published? Perhaps you are at the early planning stages and are seeking support to develop your idea into a full-length manuscript. Alternatively, you may have already developed a literary project and are looking to tailor it to the needs of a particular section of the publishing industry. Even if we are not able to publish your book as part of our own catalogue of titles, for a fee we can offer practical, professional recommendations about how you can consider taking your work to the next level. Please send us a message to find out more.

Attendance at Events
If you are organising a literary/arts event or a book festival and would like us to come along, in either a presentational or retail capacity, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please feel free to contact us for details of our availability.

For further details about any of the above services, please get in touch with us via our contact page.

Testimonials

The Writing Practice and Study Department at the University of Dundee has enjoyed an ever closer relationship with Extremis Publishing and its Partners, Julie and Tom Christie. Both have given hugely of their time to attend events, and support classes, that we have run and our students have been very effusive in their efforts and impact. This working relationship promises to flourish and some of our students are planning events in the New Year that Julie and Tom have already offered to attend.
Julie, who performs marketing and publicity responsibilities amongst a multitude of things, and Tom, who writes, and who reads, proof-reads, and designs, are both affable, personable souls who seem to have the joy of helping others in their blood. Indeed, during a visit to a Stirling café to meet them, I watched the rapport they have with their stable of writers when two or three of these published authors appeared in the same coffee shop.
Julie and Tom Christie embrace the world of writing, publishing and blogging with relish, and their positive attitude is contagious. It has been nothing but a pleasure working with them, and we look forward to continuing and enhancing that relationship.

Lecturer and Public Engagement Officer, The University of Dundee

Writing a book is the easy part of the publishing process. Preparing it for the printer and/or publisher is a different matter. Reaching your audience, selling the book successfully and moving on to your next project are additional skill sets with which Extremis Publishing can help every writer. They know every aspect of the publishing business, from commissioning to sales promotion.

Dr Elspeth King
Director Emerita, The Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum

Absolutely no doubt that Scotland has some rare talent: Tom and Julie Christie are living proof, and seeds hopefully of a new Age of Enlightenment for us - at least north of Edinburgh. Extremis is a professional and highly competent Scotland-based publishing enterprise established by accomplished brother and sister authors Tom and Julie – a rare combination indeed.
I count myself so lucky to have Tom and Julie both as business associates and dear friends. Their interest and love for Scotland is on a par with my own; their enthusiasm for our history, quirkiness and folklore has been a driving force behind Heart 200, which I founded two years ago. It is evidenced in their new publication – The Heart 200 Book - for which they share joint authorship.
A day in their company is one of the delights of the Heart 200 project.

Managing Director, Heart 200 Scot Ltd.
